Motorcycle CarPlay Screens and Dash Cams: Which One Do You Need?
A plain-English guide to INNOVV's CarPlay screens and dash cams: what each one does, what it can't do, what fits your bike and which extras you actually need. We sell these, and we'd rather you buy the right one once.

Quick answer
Want navigation and music on a screen: N2 or N3. Want the screen to come off when you park: N3. Ride a BMW and want cameras: our N3 BMW kit, which runs through INNOVV's own BMW base, not the factory cradle. Want a dash cam only: K6 for a simple USB install, K7 for 2K front and rear, GPS and parking mode.
Which one is for you? Our picks
This is our recommendation, based on what each unit can and can't do.
| If you are | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Commuter: maps, music and calls on the bars, screen stays on the bike | N2 | CarPlay and Android Auto from your phone on a fixed 1-inch ball mount. Add cameras, GPS or tire sensors later. |
| Weekend rider who parks in public and wants to take the screen along | N3 Universal Kit | Quick-release base: the screen comes off, the base and cables stay on the bike. Ball head mount in the box. |
| ADV or touring rider who wants one screen for everything | N3 Universal Kit + 2K camera set + GPS + TPMS | Navigation, front and rear recording, speed and position on your video, and tire pressure on one screen. |
| BMW owner who wants cameras | N3 BMW Kit + 2K Camera + GPS | INNOVV's BMW quick-release base on the bike's 3-pin nav plug, with the 2K cameras and GPS in the box. No parking mode on that base. |
| BMW owner who wants the factory cradle and the Wonder Wheel, no cameras | N2 for BMW (we don't stock it right now, ask us) | It clips into the BMW nav cradle and works with the Wonder Wheel when SA 272 is active. No cameras, no GPS. |
| Wants recording only, no screen | K6 or K7 | K6 if you want it simple and able to run off USB. K7 if you want 2K both ways, GPS and a handlebar remote. |
| Wants the bike recording while it's parked | K7 | Parking mode is off by default. Turn it on in the app and wire it to constant battery power plus the ACC wire. |
| Already happy with a phone mount | K6 or K7 | Keep the phone mount and add a dash cam. The K6 and K7 record on their own, with no screen link. |
The four main units: what they do and don't do
CarPlay and Android Auto screens

INNOVV N2
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from your phone (iOS 13 or later, Android 11 or later)
- 5.99 inch, 1440x720 screen, up to 1200 nits per INNOVV's product page. INNOVV rates the N2 system IP67, screen and cameras
- Fixed mount on a 1-inch (25 mm) ball
- Add the 2K camera set, GPS module and TPMS sensors later
- Records to a U3 microSD card, 16 to 256 GB, once cameras are fitted
- 9 to 16 V, wired to the bike: red, black and the yellow ACC wire
- Small built-in speaker. Your headset pairs to your phone
If you get this, you can't pull the screen off quickly when you park. It's a fixed mount.
See the product page
INNOVV N3 Universal Kit
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from your phone (Android 11 or later)
- 5.99 inch, 1440x720 screen, up to 1200 nits. The screen is IP67
- Quick-release base: the screen comes off, the base and cables stay on the bike
- Ball head mount included in this kit
- No camera and no GPS in the box. Add the 2K camera set, GPS module and TPMS sensors
- Records to a U3 microSD card, 16 to 256 GB, once cameras are fitted
- 9 to 16 V. Your headset pairs to your phone, not the N3
If you get this, you can't record until you add the 2K camera set and a microSD card, or pair your headset straight to the screen.
See the product page
INNOVV N3 BMW Kit + 2K Camera + GPS
- The same N3 screen with INNOVV's BMW quick-release base
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 5.99 inch, 1440x720 screen, up to 1200 nits, screen rated IP67
- The base plugs into the bike's 3-pin factory nav power socket, between the instrument cluster and the headlight
- 2K front and rear cameras and the GPS module are in the box
- The cameras work through INNOVV's BMW base, not through BMW's factory nav cradle
- Records to a U3 microSD card, 16 to 256 GB
- Your phone needs iOS 13 or later for CarPlay
If you get this, you can't use parking mode (the base shuts off when the bike is locked), record in BMW's factory cradle, or fit a ball mount (there isn't one in the BMW kit).
INNOVV only ties Wonder Wheel control and bike data (like RPM and gear) to BMW's factory cradle. It doesn't say they work on its own BMW base, so we don't promise them with this kit. If the Wonder Wheel matters more to you than cameras, ask us first.

Does it fit my bike?
Any bike: the universal rule
- The N2 sits on a 1-inch (25 mm) ball mount. INNOVV says the N3 Universal fits all motorcycles, and its kit includes a ball head mount.
- No good spot on the bars? Our two mirror brackets give you a 1-inch ball where your mirror mounts. INNOVV lists both under the N3's ball-mount accessories.
- The rod bracket clamps round mirror stems from 10 to 16 mm and comes with reducer sleeves. The crooked-mouth bracket uses a 6 cm arm.
- The K6 comes with three bracket packs. The K7's cameras are on wires (1.5 m front, 2 m rear), so you place them where they see best.

BMW: what your bike needs
- A genuine BMW mount: Nav Prep 5/6 (key lock, no front buttons) or the keyless ConnectedRide mount (BMW part 65 90 5 B6C 8C0). Mounts with physical buttons are not supported.
- The BMW mount has to be original and unmodified. Clone mounts are not supported.
- SA 272 ("Preparation for Navigation Unit") has to be active for Wonder Wheel control and native bike data like RPM and gear. You don't need it just to use the screen.
- K 1600 models and the R 1200 RT need an additional mounting bracket.

- Waterproof bag: INNOVV makes two different bags, one for the N2 for BMW and one for the N3.
- The K6 and K7 are stand-alone dash cams. The screen accessories above are not for them: INNOVV says the N2/N3 cameras only work with the N2 and N3, and that the K7 and N2 accessories are not interchangeable.

Things riders ask
Can I hear navigation in my Cardo or Sena?
Yes. Pair your Cardo, Sena or other headset to your phone, not to the screen. INNOVV says the N2 and N3 don't connect to a Bluetooth headset directly, so your phone sends the navigation prompts and music to your helmet. The screen's own speaker is small, so INNOVV recommends a headset anyway.
Does it work without my phone?
Navigation, music and calls come from your phone through CarPlay or Android Auto, so for those your phone has to be connected. The N2 and N3 have no GPS built in. INNOVV's GPS module is a separate add-on that records speed and position with your video, and tire pressure from the TPMS sensors shows on the screen itself.
Does the N3 record when it's off the bike?
No. The 2K cameras record through the screen onto the microSD card inside it, so when you take the N3 with you, nothing is recording. If you want footage while the bike is parked, a K7 wired for parking mode records on its own. On INNOVV's BMW base there is no parking mode at all.
Can my K7 cameras plug into the N2 or N3?
No. INNOVV says the K7 and N2 are two different systems and their accessories are not interchangeable, and that the N2/N3 camera set only works with the N2 and N3. The moderator on INNOVV's forum says the same about the N3. You can run a screen and a K7 on the same bike, they just stay separate.
Will it drain my battery?
Wire it the way INNOVV shows: red and black to the battery, and the yellow ACC wire to a source that is only live with the ignition on, so the unit follows your key. On the K7, parking mode is off by default. If you turn it on, it needs constant battery power and INNOVV says the battery should be at 12.5 V or more. INNOVV's BMW base shuts off when the bike is locked.
Can I use the K7 app and wireless CarPlay at the same time?
No. INNOVV explains that wireless CarPlay uses your phone's Wi-Fi, the K7 app needs the K7's Wi-Fi, and a phone can generally only join one at a time. Disconnect CarPlay when you want the app. The K7 keeps loop recording in the background as long as the bike is on.
Which microSD card do I need?
N2 and N3: U3 rated, 16 to 256 GB. K6: U3 or faster, 8 to 256 GB. K7: U3 and V30 rated, 8 to 512 GB. Plan on buying a card with the K6 and K7, and format it before first use.
Which iPhone and Android versions work?
iOS 13 or later for CarPlay and Android 11 or later for Android Auto. Those are the minimums INNOVV lists for the N2, the N3 BMW and the N2 for BMW, and the N3 manual asks for Android 11 or later too.
Is GPS built into the N2 or N3?
No. GPS on the N2 and N3 is a separate add-on module, which INNOVV uses to record speed and position with your video. Our N3 BMW kit includes it. For the N2 and the N3 Universal Kit it's an add-on. The K7 comes with its own GPS module, and the K6 has no GPS.
How many tire sensors does the TPMS kit support?
Two, one front and one rear. That's the most the N1 Pro, N2 and N3 read. The sensors run on a replaceable CR1632 battery and show the pressure on the screen. There's no separate phone app. The N2 for BMW doesn't take them, it reads the bike's own factory TPMS.
INNOVV, CHIGEE or Carpuride?
Our take: we sell INNOVV and CHIGEE, so we're happy to point you at either. INNOVV makes sense if you want a removable screen with a matching camera, GPS and TPMS kit, or a stand-alone K6 or K7 dash cam. CHIGEE has its own guide on our site. We don't sell Carpuride, so we won't judge it.
Known issues and how to avoid them
Lines marked "Tip" are rider reports from INNOVV's forum and reviews, not INNOVV statements.
Format the card the right way
INNOVV says to format the K7's card before first use so loop recording works properly. Tip: two K7 riders on INNOVV's forum reported the card filling up instead of looping. The forum moderator's advice is to make sure a loop recording length is set and, if recording ever stops, reformat the card in the INNOVV app. Check now and then that new clips are being saved.
Put the yellow wire on switched power
The yellow wire is the ACC wire, the one that should only get 12 V once the ignition is on. To find a switched wire, use a meter: 0 V with the key off, about 12 V with it on. Tip: one rider on INNOVV's forum said his N3 kept running after he switched the bike off, and the forum moderator recommends switching the N3 through the yellow wire.
Pair the tire sensors in the right order
In the N3 manual, sensor A is the front wheel and sensor B is the rear. Tip: some owners report that pairing takes a few tries, so pair them at home before a trip, not at the side of the road.
Android Auto voice through a Cardo
Tip: as of July 2026, two riders on INNOVV's forum reported that Android Auto voice commands didn't work through their Cardo on the N2, while maps audio and music did. The forum moderator said he had passed it to INNOVV. If voice control matters to you, test it on your setup early.
Running an N2 and a K7 on the same bike
Tip: one rider found the INNOVV app kept connecting to the N2's Wi-Fi when he wanted the K7. The forum moderator's workaround is to shorten the N2's Wi-Fi timer.
Music coming out of the screen instead of your helmet
On the N3, go to Settings, D/V, Sound Source and choose Phone.
K7 seals and heat
Seat the K7's SD card cover and the connector rubber rings properly, or water can get in. The DVR gets hot to the touch, and INNOVV says that is normal.
Install: DIY or a shop?
K6: plug and play
The K6 can run off any standard 5V USB supply, including a power bank or a USB outlet, so there's no wiring into the bike. Or hardwire it to the battery through the supplied converter: red to battery positive, black to negative, yellow to ACC, with the inline fuse.
K7: a hardwire job
The K7 is battery powered only: red and black on the battery, yellow on ACC, 1A fuse. INNOVV says its modular cables install without cutting your factory wiring. One owner's K7 install on a BMW R 1250 GS Adventure took a Sunday afternoon and four evenings, and another reviewer spent a good 5 hours. INNOVV's own blog also shows shop installs. If your bike has an aftermarket power module or CAN-bus controller that cuts power at key-off, INNOVV notes parking mode may not work as intended.
N2 and N3 with cameras
The screens are wired to the bike with red, black and the yellow ACC wire. On the N3, the cameras connect through the quick-release base. On a BMW, INNOVV's base plugs into the 3-pin factory nav socket between the instrument cluster and the headlight.
Our advice: the K6 is an evening job. For a K7, or a screen with cameras, plan a full day or have a shop do it.
