Common questions
How do I get the right Shoei size?
Measure the circumference of your head about an inch above your eyebrows with a soft tape, then match it to Shoei's size chart on the product page. A Shoei should feel snug all around with no pressure points and no gaps. The cheek pads break in slightly, so start on the firmer side, and if you are between sizes go down first and wear it for a few minutes. Shoei uses multiple shell sizes so the proportions stay correct across the range.
What is Pinlock and do I need it?
Pinlock is an anti-fog insert that snaps onto the inside of the shield to stop it fogging in cold or wet weather. Most current Shoei models are Pinlock ready and many, like the RF-1400, include the insert in the box. If you ride in cold or rain, it is well worth having.

Full-face or modular, which should I choose?
A fixed full-face is the lightest and quietest option and the benchmark for protection. A modular like the Neotec 3 adds a flip-up chin bar for everyday convenience, which is great for touring, glasses and quick stops. Modern Shoei modulars are exceptionally well built, so it really comes down to whether you value the flip-up convenience or the lower weight of a full-face.
Are Shoei shields and cheek pads replaceable?
Yes. Shoei shields swap tool free, and the cheek pads and liners are removable, washable and available in different thicknesses so you can fine tune the fit. Current models also use Emergency Quick-Release cheek pads that first responders can pull to remove the helmet safely.
How often should I replace my helmet?
Replace any helmet after a crash or significant impact, and generally every five years from the date of first use, since the EPS liner and materials age over time even when the helmet still looks fine.
